Porn addiction treatment · Austin, Texas

Structured recovery for men whose porn use is out of control.

If your porn use has escalated, cost you time or a relationship, or continues despite your promises to stop, you are dealing with a behavioral pattern that does not resolve on willpower. Iron Ridge Recovery runs an 8-week outpatient program in Austin that treats compulsive pornography use directly.

8-week IOP · evenings, three nights a week Group + individual therapy · same therapist throughout Confidential · nothing reported to insurance

The pattern

What compulsive porn use actually looks like

Compulsive porn use is not defined by frequency alone. Some men are watching nightly and are fine. What defines a compulsive pattern is loss of control combined with real consequences and continued use despite them. In our intake calls we hear the same phrases over and over: "I have tried everything," "It is worse than it used to be," "It got weirder," "I am hiding it from my wife and it is killing me."

Why it feels stuck

The behavior became conditioned during years when it worked to numb, escape, or self-soothe. Willpower does not undo conditioning.

What treatment looks like

An 8-week structured program with group and individual therapy, addressing the behavior and the underlying drivers.

When to reach out

When you have tried to stop on your own and it has not held. When it is affecting your relationship. When you know something has to change.

What this program is not

We do not offer:

  • Filters, accountability apps, or blockers as a treatment plan
  • A shame-based, faith-based, or willpower-based framework
  • A quick fix or a "detox" without clinical support
  • A residential/inpatient program (this is intensive outpatient)

We are a clinical program. Group therapy, individual therapy, structured curriculum, and a partner track for couples where the behavior has damaged trust.

Frequently asked

Is porn addiction real?
The clinical picture, repeated inability to control the behavior despite significant consequences, is recognized in the ICD-11 under Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (6C72). Whether or not you use the word 'addiction,' the treatable pattern is real: escalation, loss of control, and continued use despite consequences.
Do you take insurance?
We are private pay and out-of-network with PPO plans. We provide superbills that most PPOs will reimburse toward your out-of-network mental health benefits. Nothing is reported to your employer beyond what a superbill contains.
How is this different from a filter or accountability app?
Filters and accountability apps remove access. Treatment addresses why the behavior became compulsive in the first place: the underlying drivers, the conditioned response, and the shame loop that keeps it going. Filters are useful supports; they are not a treatment plan.
How long is the program?
8 weeks in the core IOP, with optional aftercare group and coaching afterward. About 9 clinical hours per week (three evening groups plus one individual session).
Can my partner be part of treatment?
Yes. We run a concurrent partner program for the partner of the man in IOP, using a trauma-informed clinical framework. It is a dedicated clinical track, not couples counseling, because partners of men with compulsive sexual behavior often carry their own trauma injury from the discovery.
